A dynamic international food innovation company with head office in Australia, believes food should be fresh, safe to eat, free of chemicals, additives & preservatives, and be great tasting, is scaling a world-first Avocado processing technology.  In South Africa, they collaborate with a leading fresh-cut fruit manufacturer based on the border of Gauteng/Mpumalanga.  They are recruiting a Fruit Processing Specialist, on a renewable contract basis.  This is a long-term project and is already in the expansion phase.  Expansion to other parts of the world is envisaged, and the incumbent will be involved with new developments.

Working closely with our manufacturing partner in South Africa, the role will be responsible for:
• Avocado Machine (ATM) Operation, Training, Maintenance & Repairs
• Machine installation, commissioning, and decommissioning (pre-season and post-season)
• Report daily to the international company on ATM performance and operation
• Work with the local company procurement team to ensure optimal quality and supply
• Work with the local company ripening team to ensure optimal ripeness of raw fruit prior to processing
• Work with the local company operations team to drive operational efficiency and reduce waste
• Work with the local company QA team to monitor, report and improve product quality
• Work with the local company Logistics team to ensure all  the orders are supplied in full and on time
• Keep an accurate record of stock holding in a third party Frozen Storage facility
• Proven experience in food manufacturing and leadership roles (5+ years minimum)
• Strong mechanical knowledge and experience
• Strong knowledge of food processing machinery and operational systems
• Experience in developing preventive maintenance programs
• Possess strong communication and people management skills
• Highly motivated and continuous improvement mindset
• Experience working with Industrial PLC systems
• Experience with inventory and operational management tools
• High level of professional integrity
• Ability to travel internationally as required (up to 8 weeks per year), to Australia and other parts of the world (Covid-19 international travel rules permitting)
• Strong team building and collaboration skills
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as an individual contributor
• Ability to influence change
