A successful citrus operation is the holding company of several production units in the Eastern Cape. In line with their strategy to expand, they are now recruiting a Managing Director.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Board of Directors the Managing Director will assume full responsibility for the viability and profitability of the company. This entails responsibility for all aspects of the business, including, but not limited to the following: • Overall management of the company in line with its strategy (co-developed with the Board). • Management of all infrastructure and farming development projects and programmes. • Stakeholder management (inclusive of management of strategic relationships). • Overseeing day-to-day management of the company (inclusive of normal executive reporting and being responsible for normal Public Officer responsibilities). Among other, key performance areas include: • Strategic Management ▪ Determine strategic priorities in line with the overall vision for the company. ▪ Formulate and execute appropriate financial and business plans across the business (production; packing; sales; exports; business development; financial management/ administration). ▪ Responsible for the growth of the company in terms of turnover and profitability. • Business Management and ensures that all business plans support long-term sustainability objectives for the company. ▪ Full management responsibility for the company. ▪ Develop and maintain service levels across all operational functions of the company (farming/production; packing; distribution and export in conjunction with the logistics partner. ▪ Together with the Finance/Administration Manager ensures that compliance with all regulatory requirements is in place for the company to be able to conduct its current business operations effectively. ▪ Maintains cooperative relationships with key stakeholder groups. This area includes liaison and interaction with the Board/shareholders, industry bodies, Government departments/agencies, customers, suppliers, and employees. ▪ Manage the key relationship with the company’s logistics and marketing service provider.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned manager with a strong skills-set gained in a primary fruit production environment and who has established him/herself successfully at general management level (or who is aspiring to the level). The following critical requirements are key selection criteria: • Credible senior-level functional, if not general management experience, preferably gained in the wider fruit production industry. Whilst intimate knowledge and exposure to citrus production is not a requirement, the candidate should demonstrate the ability to rapidly become familiar with the nuances and workings of the citrus industry. • Relevant academic qualifications, while not essential will be a recommendation. i.e. BAgric; BSc Agric; Engineering; BCom/CA; MBA). • Entrepreneurial flair with a strong appetite to co-develop the business. • Proven ability to lead, leaving a legacy of growth (of business units, management teams, and individuals). • Strong conceptual skills with the distinct ability to contribute at both strategic and operational levels.• A strong commercial orientation and business development skills are required. • A strong environmental ethic. • Outstanding leadership skills (inclusive of the ability to gain credibility and exert influence across various levels). • Ability to effect positive change. • An energetic approach. • Independent implementer and self-starter. • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with a wide range of shareholders and stakeholders (including the Board, local government, industry bodies, agents and customers, etc), both domestic and foreign. Given the diverse nature of these stakeholders, excellent ability in English is required, while ability in Afrikaans and Xhosa will strengthen the application. • High level of interpersonal competency and diplomacy at stakeholder level. • Impeccable character in terms of credibility, responsibility, and integrity. • High levels of emotional resilience.
Remuneration package: market-related and negotiable. Includes housing and company vehicle for business use. Will be eligible to participate in an attractive incentive scheme.
