Description

This dynamic company focus on Agriculture, Renewables, and Technology.  They also focus on affordable transport solutions for the food industry, i.e. unique electric drive vehicles, as an enabler for entrepreneurs in the execution of their various entrepreneurial activities.  Their aim and purpose of creating an enabling environment for African entrepreneurs to grow profitable, sustainable businesses that can compete regionally, nationally, and internationally. They are now recruiting a  Operations Director, reporting directly to the MD.  The Operations Director needs to plan, direct, and coordinate production across various agricultural and horticultural operations and collective farms in order to grow and harvest crops, mentor farmers as well as meet budgeted targets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  1. Provide leadership, direction and management to the organisation
  2. Develop and implement an innovative and ambitious Agriculture strategy with a clear focus on evidence-based advocacy and scaling up of operations.
  3. Overseeing quality of implementation (time, budget and deliverables) of Agriculture programmes
  4. Establish and manage budgets, monitor production output and costs, record information such as farm management practices, and prepare financial and operational reports
  5. Identify and create new markets and liaise with buyers to arrange for the sale of crops
  6. Positioning the company as a global player in the Agriculture sector in the international development arena.
  7. Organise new projects and existing farming operations such as setting up infrastructure, maintain buildings, water supply systems and equipment
  8. Purchase machinery, equipment, and supplies such as tractors, seed, fertilizer, and chemicals
  9. Plan the type, intensity and sequence of farm operations
  10. Direct and coordinate activities such as planting, irrigation, chemical application, harvesting, and grading
  11. Inspect plantations and fields to determine maturity dates of crops, or to estimate potential crop damage from weather
  12. Identify and controlling agricultural and environmental toxins, weeds, pests and diseases
  13. Analyse soil to determine types and quantities of fertilizer required for maximum production
  14. Overseeing the selection, training and performance of agricultural workers
  15. Ensuring coherence between sectors and cross-cutting themes and approaches.
