FPEF Graduate Placement Programme

The Fresh Produce Exporters’ Forum (FPEF) Graduate Placement Programme provides graduates with practical work experience in the fresh produce export industry. This initiative bridges the gap between academic learning and industry application, offering structured mentorship and exposure to global markets. Participants gain valuable skills that enhance employability and career growth within the agricultural export sector.

A leading fresh produce exporter committed to innovation and operational excellence has a graduate internship role available as Financial Clerk. This internship offers exposure to financial operations within a global supply chain environment. You’ll play a key role in ensuring accurate, timely, and complete accounting of income and costs while supporting supplier relationships and compliance.

Purpose of the role:

To manage financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting processes, ensuring compliance and accuracy in all financial records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Capture debtor, supplier, and producer invoices
  • Allocate costs correctly to sale/purchase orders
  • Verify invoices for SARS tax compliance
  • Capture and match payments in the accounting system
  • Send remittances and manage supplier correspondence
  • Perform debtor, creditor, and bank reconciliations
  • Assist with cashflow forecasting and financial reporting
  • Support annual audit preparation and ad-hoc reporting
  • Process debit/credit cards and post journals

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Matric plus Diploma or degree in Finance or Accounting or similar.
  • Background in finance or similar role
  • Some experience in a similar position is advantageous
  • Strong attention to detail and error detection
  • Good MS Excel skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (Afrikaans & English)
  • Problem-solving, teamwork, and time management abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • SA Citizen
  • Students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds will enjoy preference
  • Under 30 years of age

Career Path:

After completing the 12-month contract, you’ll have a solid foundation in financial processes and reconciliations. Successful performance may lead to a permanent Financial Clerk role, with a long-term pathway to Junior Accountant or Senior Financial Officer within 2–5 years.
