The Fresh Produce Exporters’ Forum (FPEF) Graduate Placement Programme provides graduates with practical work experience in the fresh produce export industry. This initiative bridges the gap between academic learning and industry application, offering structured mentorship and exposure to global markets. A leading fresh produce exporter committed to innovation and operational excellence has a graduate internship role available as Junior Industrial Engineer. This internship offers exposure to operational efficiency projects in a global supply chain environment. You’ll work closely with production, quality, and logistics teams to ensure the packhouse runs smoothly, cost-effectively, and meets international export standards.

Purpose of the role:
To improve operational efficiency by analysing processes, optimizing layouts, and supporting compliance and sustainability initiatives within the packhouse.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct time-and-motion studies to identify productivity improvements across packing lines
  • Support layout optimization of packhouse facilities to streamline product flow
  • Collaborate with Quality Control to ensure export compliance
  • Work with maintenance and operations to minimize equipment downtime
  • Prepare process documentation, SOPs, and training materials for operators
  • Support sustainability and energy efficiency projects within the packhouse

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering (BEng/BSc Industrial or equivalent)
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills
  • Understanding of production systems, process flow, and logistics
  • Excellent problem-solving and teamwork abilities
  • SA Citizen
  • Students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds will enjoy preference
  • Under 30 years of age

Career Path:

After completing the 12-month contract, you’ll have a strong foundation in operational workflows and process optimization. Successful performance may lead to a permanent Industrial Engineer role, with a long-term pathway to Senior Industrial Engineer within 2–5 years.
