The Fresh Produce Exporters’ Forum (FPEF) Graduate Placement Programme provides graduates with practical work experience in the fresh produce export industry. This initiative bridges the gap between academic learning and industry application, offering structured mentorship and exposure to global markets. A leading fresh produce exporter committed to innovation and operational excellence has a graduate internship role available as Junior Stock Controller. This internship offers hands-on experience in managing stock records, reconciling inventory, and supporting efficient packhouse stock processes to ensure accurate supply availability for export markets.

Purpose of the role:

To support packhouse and export operations by maintaining accurate stock records, reconciling inventory, and ensuring efficient communication between packhouse teams, marketers, and internal systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform stock reconciliations to ensure alignment between system records and physical stock
  • Capture and intake stock into the system using packhouse production (PI) files
  • Compile and distribute daily stock reports indicating available quantities and fruit specifications
  • Verify pallet-out (PO) data and ensure alignment with sales orders
  • Create and update market consignments and maintain accurate stock allocation to sales orders
  • Design and generate pallet and carton labels based on customer specifications
  • Respond to general stock queries from packhouse teams and marketers

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Agriculture, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced packhouse environment
  • Basic understanding of stock control systems (e.g. PR3 or similar) will be advantageous
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data handling
  • SA Citizen
  • Graduates from previously disadvantaged backgrounds will enjoy preference
  • Under 30 years of age

Career Path:

After completing the 12-month contract, you’ll have a strong foundation in stock control systems, inventory management, and packhouse operations. Successful performance may lead to a permanent Stock Controller role, with potential career progression to Senior Stock Controller or Inventory/Operations Supervisor within 2–5 years.
