Position Overview:
Involved in the planning and co-coordinating of the feed manufacturing processes to ensure that the products and services are effective and produced according to the right costs and quality. Responsible for the management and coordination of the feed mills processes including intake, storage, grinding, batching, mixing, pelting and dispatch of product, continuous improvement of the facilities performance and overall equipment efficiency and stock control.
Key Performance Areas (Raw Material Duties and Responsibilities):
•Allocate production and update schedules to incorporate feed order / product code changes
•Receive new feed orders
•Ensure adequate raw material levels in proportioning bins
•Ensure adequate final feed stock levels in out-loading bins
•Participate in schedule planned maintenance
•Check & ensure that pellet and feed quality meets specifications
•Manage raw material and final feed line / system flushing
•Supervise line checks
•Continuously monitor plant and equipment parameters
•Implement & control feed safety standards
•Maintain all critical control points
•Effective utilization of all Management Information Systems
•Daily, weekly, monthly monitoring & control of overall equipment efficiency
•Implement initiative to address deviations
•Ensure accurate completion of shift production Key performance indicators
•Adequately report machine & equipment failures to maintenance department
•Discipline of work force
•Improve manpower utilizations
•Ensure Subordinates job descriptions are up to date and adhered to
•Member of recruitment panel
•Train & frequently retrain personnel on relevant SOP’s
•Identify, introduce, plan & monitor appropriate training for all production personnel
•Plan, coordinate and monitor adequate stock levels in plant
•Ensure correct issuing & utilization of PPE
•Ensure all employee compliance to OSH Act
•Communicate and coordinate inbound and outbound logistics
•Control generation of waste and sweepings
•Time management
•Participate in annual production & training budget
•Monthly expense control
•Analyse and review milling cost (pennant)
•Check and sign off batch, shift and pellet reports
•Manage overtime and leave of personnel
•Compare batch reports inclusion with formulated requirements and report deviations
•Manage and maintain up to date files
•Communicate production statistics to workforce (notice boards)
•Ensure adequate shift changeovers
•Communicate production backlogs and plant failures to General Manager
•Ensure effective and efficient interdepartmental communication
•Ensure accurate and professional communication with customers & suppliers
•Enforce housekeeping standards
•Ensure correct stacking & storage practices
•Enforce and manage GMP policies and systems
Position Requirements/Qualifications:
•Matric (Grade 12)
•National Diploma in Production
•5 years in animal feed manufacturing environment
•2 years management experience in FMCG (fast moving consumer goods)
